Call a Glacier - Real time sound from the melting Vernagt Glacier
The german sound artist Kalle Laar has placed a microphone in the heart of the Vernagt Glacier in Ötztal / Austria. By calling 0049(0)89 3791 4058 you’ll hear the real time sound of the melting glacier.
I just called the glacier and it sounds really noisy. Water is pouring down and occasionally you will hear “cracking and other utterances made living glaciers as they grow and recede in perpetual seasonal flux” writes Laar on the website. He titled the sound art project Mobile Elegy in order to point to the contemporary climate change and global warming.
Mobile Elegy will be extended to other glaciers in the Alps, the Pyrenees and other sites worldwide. Read more about Calling the Glacier or simply call the Vernagt Glacier.
Update: The second glacier is now available: Call 049(0)89 3741 4602 and you will be connected to the biggest glacier in Austria: Pasterze Glacier in the Hohe Tauern area.

thanks for sharing!!!!
